ONE TO NONE is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization with a mission to raise money for research for Type 1 Diabetes as well as provide financial assistance to those who are living with this chronic disease. We focus on fashion, fitness, and food to raise awareness and to change the perception of Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can occur to anyone at any age. A person can develop Type 1 when the body’s own immune system attacks the beta cells (or insulin producing cells) in the pancreas, rendering the pancreas unable to produce the hormone insulin. Once this attack occurs, and the pancreas is unable to produce insulin, a person must rely on daily insulin injections in order to stay alive.
How is Type 1 Diabetes different than Type 2?
The Majority of cases around the world are Type 2, around 5% of all cases are Type 1. Type 2 Diabetes can usually be controlled through diet and exercise since the body’s pancreas still produces insulin, unlike a type 1 diabetic that produces no insulin. Around 1.25 million Americans have type one diabetes with an estimated 40,000 new cases each year. Currently, there is no cure for Type 1 Diabetes. One to None is committed to help support research to find the cure for Type 1 Diabetes as well as provide support to those living with Type 1.
